Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1): GOODNIGHT OLIVE

Goodnight Olive ($4.20) made it back-to-back Filly & Mare Sprint victories by taking charge around the turn for home and pulling away for a 2 ¾-length win over Yuugiri in the $1 million BC Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).

It was a wonderful way for the 5-year-old Ghostzapper mare trained by Chad Brown to end her career. Goodnight Olive never finished out of the money in her 12 career starts – nine wins (four of them Grade 1s) two seconds a third for earnings of $2,196,200.

The win gave both Brown and winning jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. their 18th victory in BC races.

“Beautiful trip. She was there for me every time I asked,’’ Ortiz said. “She gives me confidence. I knew I was on the best horse. She did it again.”
