Your voice has been chosen! We are excited to announce the winners of the first edition of the USR Best of 2019 Awards.
Our experts created seven categories with several representatives in each, all whose contributions and activities made positive impacts and substantial differences within the industry in 2019. Online voting was conducted for one month, from December 10, 2019 to January 9, 2020 with each voter having the ability cast one ballot in each category once every 24 hours. Each received hundreds of votes and for many, the final tally came down the wire.
This year’s top vote-getter in
US Racing’s Best Of OTTB Organization will be awarded a $1,000. Additionally, the winners of each of the other categories will receive $100 to be donated in their name to their choice of any one of the Best Of OTTB Organizations represented in our contest.
Congratulations to the top OTTB Organization winner, with a 70 percentage of total votes, Old Friends Equine Retirement based in Versailles, Kentucky. The entire industry remains grateful for the great work and contribution Old Friends makes to retired racehorses and the example of excellence they continue to set each year.
Additional congratulations goes out to the top vote-getters from all of the other categories: Maximum Security (Top 3 Year Old), Fox Hill Farm (Best Owners), Irad Ortiz Jr (Best Jockey), Anna Meah (Best Trainer), Claiborne (Best Farm), Southern Phantom (Best Social Media Account).

Irad has become a role model for new jockeys and one of the greatest athletes in the horse racing community.
With only 14 months as a horse racing trainer, Anna Meah is positioned as our first winner in the best trainer category. Anna Meah has earned more than $ 700,000 in just a few months. We know that a bright future awaits her and we wish her the best of successes in her career as a horse racing trainer.
Founded in 1910 and located in Paris, Kentucky, Claiborne Farm is one of the most experienced farms in the United States and the house of racing star Secretariat. The 1984 Eclipse Award winner for Outstanding Breeder is considered one of the most influential American Breeding operations due to the great effort they made and the big careers they’ve developed.
Owned by Calumet Farm and Southern Equine Stable LLC, Southern Phantom is our 2019 winner for the category of Best Social Media Account. This white-faced horse shares his adventures, photos and videos from his Twitter account, you can follow him @PhantomSouthern.
