Enola Gray dominates in Fleet Treat Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Enola Gray exerted minimal effort to remain unbeaten after three starts with a convincing win in $147,000 Friday’s Fleet Treat Stakes for California-bred 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar.

Enola Gray has won her races by a combined 26 1/4 lengths. She won the seven-furlong Fleet Treat Stakes by 7 3/4 lengths under a confident ride from jockey Tyler Baze.

Enola Gray ($2.20) disputed the early pace with Fantasy of Luck before taking command on the turn. She pulled away quickly and won without being urged over Allsquare.

Phil D’Amato trains Enola Gray and Allsquare. Enola Gray, who is owned by breeder Nick Alexander, was timed in 1:21.24.

“It was what I hoped for,” Alexander said. “I figured there was no speed horses that could stay with her. I thought Tyler Baze rode a perfect race.”

Fantasy of Luck finished third in the field of five, followed by The Spiral Jetter and Run for Retts. Roo’s Valentine was scratched early Friday. Be a Lady was scratched after becoming upset in the gate.

Enola Gray, by Grazen, won her debut at Santa Anita in a maiden race at 6 1/2 furlongs for California-bred fillies and mares by 16 1/4 lengths on April 10 and her stakes debut in the Melair Stakes for statebred 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles by 2 1/4 lengths on May 28.
