“One time! One time!”
You hear it during every race, with bettors pleading to the racing gods to help their short-term equine investment produce a dividend. Whether that happens or not, the same people will yell it the next race, too.
But if anyone could hit the Breeders’ Cup Pick 6 just one time, once would be much more than enough. It would be the proverbial life-changing score, the racetrack equivalent of hitting Power Ball, with the possibility of a seven-figure payoff.
On Saturday at Santa Anita, there was the possibility of a Pick 6 pool of more than $5 million. All you have to do is pick the winners of six consecutive races — the Filly & Mare Turf, Sprint, Mile, Distaff, Turf and Classic — and you can retire Monday.
Post time for the opener in the sequence is 1:54 p.m. PT
When 45-1 shot Storm the Court pulled a shocker in Friday’s Juvenile, it guaranteed a Pick 6 carryover of $489,379.
There is a mandatory payout on Saturday, so even if you hit “only” five winners, you will get rich quick.
Let the pari-mutuel battle begin.
Big risk, massive reward.
