2013 Breeders' Cup Classic Results
Second to Fort Larned in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Classic, Mucho Macho Man found himself in the winner's circle after the 2013 edition following a thrilling finish in which the game 5-year-old son of Macho Uno, owned by Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, nosed out a surging Will Take Charge at the wire. Declaration of War was another head back. Coming off a win in the Awesome Again Stakes, Mucho Macho Man took command of the field entering the stretch and opened up a clear lead before Will Take Charge, the 2013 Travers Stakes winner, made a late challenge, rushing up in the final strides. For jockey Gary Stevens, winning the Classic with Mucho Macho Man was a remarkable capper to a comeback season in which he also won the 2013 Breeders' Cup Distaff. For trainer Kathy Ritvo, it was history made as the first woman to win the $5 million championship race.
